E-Mail
from Gregg Hosfeld Dated: 09/22/99For those of you who are
not on my Florida Disc golfers email list... after Saturday's
Shaggy doo...I'm going to do some work/play at the canyon
on Sunday please read on for details... additional info added

Hi Gang!
In case I didn't get back to you on this. I had hoped to do
a canyon work day on Saturday Sept 25. Sea World wishes to
pay me to work that day. I concurred.
However,
later that evening I will go open a new comedy club in (believe
it or don't) Brooksville. Still awaiting info on the club's
name & location. Leon Lilly will be closing the show.
Should be a great nite!
He and
I plan to hit the Canyon on Sunday. If we can get some people
to help out, two more baskets can go in and we will have a
14 hole circle that will bring you right back to hole #1!!!!!
Huge
apologies for the continual shift in the workday schedule.
But I'm not sorry that the reason is that people keep offering
me $ to throw stuff.
Hope
you can come out Sunday. We need the help. John plans to start
full time cutting later in the fall. His Bike and Run schedule
for the remainder of the year is pretty hectic and makes him
a lot more $ than disc golf. We must come to grips with the
fact that $ is an issue. Anyone who wants the canyon to succeed
as a disc golf course will have incentive to put some creative
thought into ways to make John enough $ to keep it manicured.
We are working on finding a level that suits us all. As we
install more baskets and begin to put in tee signs, some small
changes will occur for various reasons (primarily for ease
of maintenance)
I'd love
to run a monthly once things are a little more consistent.
What do you think? Hos
For your
info, here's the Bike and Run Schedule for the Gran Canyon:
10/10/99, 10/24/99, 11/21/99, 12/05/99, 01/15/2000-01/16/2000,
02/05/2000-02/06/2000, 02/19/2000-02/20/2000, 03/11/2000-03/12/2000
NO DISC
GOLF WILL BE PLAYED AT THE CANYON DURING THESE DAYS!! WE WANT
YOU TO COME OUT, BUT PLAN ACCORDINGLY. Weekends are usually
open for play. You must call ahead of time and clear Weekday
play with John Benefield (352) 796-8955. All activities are
$3.00 per day. (Mountain Biking, Hiking, and Disc Golf) take
your pick...take a friend >>

------------ Update 09/09/99 ---------------
E-Mail
from Gregg Hosfeld Dated: 09/09/99Hi Gang. Due to the untimeliness
of my scheduling...the workday scheduled
for Saturday Sep 11th is being postponed until Saturday Sept
25th. There
doesn't seem to be anything on the schedule (in Florida) for
that date.
We have
two (possibly 3) more baskets to install and with luck, a
few
alternate pin positions. Holes17 & 18 will be placed in
slightly
different positions to allow John to continue his Ball golf
pursuit.
Printed maps should be available at the site following the
workday.
We are
looking into directional and tee signs to be placed permanently
at the
course. Anyone who is adept at woodworking may be able to
offer us some
hints that we may have overlooked.
For those
of you who may have traveled to the canyon recently, John
wishes to
extent his apologies for the overgrown fairways. Recent event
scheduling for
run & bike events has taken priority since they bring
in a decent chuck of
change and must be done properly.
A schedule
of the bike & run events will be posted on the HCWT page
hopefully
by next week.
As always
please call (352) 796-8955 before planning a WEEKDAY visit.
Weekends are open for Disc Golf play with the exception of
the bike and run
events.
More later, when I'm not LATE for work.

Update 12/31/98
I can't get near a group of disc golfers without fielding
questions about the next event at the Gran Canyon. This is
a great thing. I am very happy that your interest is this
high!!!
Brooksville is located aprox 60 miles due west of Orlando
off of hwy 50. Just west of I-75 exit 61. As most of you are
aware, the course is not (yet) permanent. However, we do have
permission to begin installing baskets after the county govt.
inspects the property to see if they can put in a ball golf
driving range. For this reason, the 1st of our scheduled work
days has been postponed until after the inspection.
If the driving range is approved, hopefully, disc golf can
co-exist on the same property. This may serve to bring in
new players from the Brooksville area.
The $ for the baskets will have to come out of our pockets
(Florida Disc Golfers) And we will have to do the installation.
This is private property and we don't have a Parks dept to
assist. It's our baby!!
"Have Course-Will Travel" (formerly DHCF) does not
have a home base from which to generate revenue. Therefore,
we rely heavily on our events being highly attended and our
participants giving their time (and hopefully a bit of their
cash) selflessly in order to keep the dream alive.

Update 10/98
We are
currently targeting Nov 14 & 15 for our 1st official work
day and Sunday funday.
Saturday morning = work on making natural stairs for downhill
walks etc.
(if possible, install 1st two permanent baskets, wood posts,
& tee areas)
Saturday afternoon = Set up temp baskets and practice.
Possibly CTP's and fund games.
Sunday Funday = (most likely) random draw doubles-2 rounds
[those not in attendance for Saturday's work day will be charged
extra. We really need your help]
We will also be holding fund raising games to generate revenue
for permanent targets. Bring elbow grease and cash.
Make plans to join in our little reindeer games!!
Thanks to your enthusiasm,(and generous donations from Innova
Champion, Discaliber, Sarasota Sky Pilots, Steve Slasor and
friends of DHCF #11) the most extreme course in Florida is
coming to fruition. Help us keep up the momentum & enthusiasm.
Thanks to their undying support, Donations to 'Have CourseWill
Travel' will be earmarked towards Innova Champion's Discatchers.
We hope to also supply those with the new inner chains once
the baskets are installed. Major donators will be listed as
sponsors on tee signs. (We have not discussed the priority
of tees signs prior to the full installation of the course.
Early "temp" signs may not fully indicate sponsorship.
In the event that the course is pulled, the baskets will return
to the sponsor (joint custody will be decided by those parties
listed as sponsors)

06/06/98 - 06/07/98 GRAN CANYON BROOKSVILLE, FL
Our first
visit to Brooksville's "Gran Canyon" has already
elevated this course to legendary status! Climo gives this
course an "A+!" Bring a strong arm and two good
legs. Leave your weenie carts at home and come find out what
Disc Golf aspires to be! We expect a full field. Pre-registration
is highly encouraged. Must close field at 90.
The Gran Canyon is very special, as those who have played
will tell you. Bucky Worboys was overheard saying "I'd
pay $20 per day to play here!" It is simply the best
Disc Golf challenge in the Sunshine State. Be there or miss
it! -Gregg Hosfeld
